14.Wed, 10/10/07 7:42 PMOther educational institutions (i.e. Cal)do not limit PTrs to a certain percentage of load. instead of concentrating on more FT positions, the UF should seek to make employment balances and fair for all. for example, i am 27% of a lecturer salary and there are those that are 75%, it all depends on the needs of the department, but no one is treated like a second-class instructor. It is a much more pleasant environment to work in. thank you for your efforts, peace, kelly

Available jobs have tripled in the last 10 years and will continue an upward trend for the next 10 years. Who and how are decisions being made about facility design? The Culinary Department does not want to get screwed once again via the first bond measure. All that money went to the book store facility.

19.Wed, 10/10/07 8:10 PMI am concerned by questions 1, 2 and 4, which focus on issues, respectively, of academic satellites (these folks work under the same contract as the rest of us and should be treated in the same ways; differences between working conditions might be spoken to but academic and professional matters are not contractual matters); distance ed policy (also an academic and professional matter, to be dealt with on the individual division and departmental level); and enrollment management (yet again not a contractual matter but, at most, an academic concern, and even then, not one that faculty have a defined role in, certainly not a collective bargaining concern, even if UF leadership has decided to tie our compensation to enrollment).

23.Wed, 10/10/07 9:45 PM1. Eliminate 60% load limit/semester for Part-Time faculty members. 2. Just have two faculty member titles: Professor (full time...) and Associate Professor (part-time...). 3. Since full time and part-time faculty members have the same teaching responsibilities, including creating courses, make pay and benefits determined by length of service and course creation, not just by a limited load.

25.Wed, 10/10/07 10:05 PMCalendar issues. I know the issue of a compressed calendar was studied and nixed, but there are other issue of calendar (mid-semester breaks at the mid mark rather than attached to religious holidays) and weekly schedule format -- M/W Tu/Th and F/SA for example.

Those the particulars of each grievance are private, it would be nice to know (through Table Talk) what issues are being addressed and how things are resolved - it's always been a mystery

31.Thu, 10/11/07 1:32 AMI'm unclear as to what is meant by "District-Wide Distance Education Policy". The are specific issues (e.g. online load limits) that can reasonably be construed as a part of collective bargaining, but policy, as generally defined, is a academic and professional matter.

33.Thu, 10/11/07 5:09 AMPart-time faculty should be given a breakdown of class hours worked and office hours worked. I never know if I'm getting paid for all the hours that I work. The current payroll system is very confusing to me and the check stub does not help to clarify my doubts. Thanks.

35.Thu, 10/11/07 4:20 PMThe issue of equity in load needs to be addressed. Science faculty teaching labs receive 75% load. The demands of teaching lab are very comparable to a traditional lecture. There is preparation required, grading of! lab quizzes,tests, and lab reports. A film instructor receives lectur e credit (i.e. 100% load)eventhough a majority of the class time is used to watch a film. Those teaching in the math "lab" also receive 75% load, but there is no prepartion and no correcting involved. Science labs ought to be loaded at 100% just as other classes that involve preparation and correcting student assignments are loaded.

I very much would like to be involved, but I don't want other responsibilites to fall by the wayside either, so I'm unable to volunteer for anything without sufficient reassinged time. As always, salary is the most important issue since that is a measure of how important faculty members are to the college/district.

65.Fri, 10/19/07 7:25 PMThe UF (along with everyone at CCCCD) needs to refer to SRC as a division or a campus, not as in opposition to DVC. We are part of DVC. DVC has two campuse! s--Pleasant Hill (PHC) and San Ramon (SRC). As we all need to acknowledge, language influences perception. Changing perception often starts with language. Clearly, perception needs to be adjusted; that's part of the problem of increasing communication and cooperation between two campuses and among the colleges in the district.
