| What changes, if any, would you like to see in your benefits plan? |
| # | Response Date | Comment |
| 1. | Wed, 10/10/07 7:05 PM | More dental cleanings approved for peridontal patients (like myself) |
| 2. | Wed, 10/10/07 7:05 PM | I think the benefit plan is great. |
| 3. | Wed, 10/10/07 7:08 PM | Larger $ benefits for dental. |
| 4. | Wed, 10/10/07 7:12 PM | I do not participate in benefits so I cannot comment on it. |
| 5. | Wed, 10/10/07 7:13 PM | !
That it is much better handled, especially as one approaches and attains retirement. I am not happy with Kaiser, its care, or its cavalier attitude towards its patients, including me. We need to use our clout, our numbers and our fees to wrestle a much more comprehensive, flexible, and compassionate care, both for us as employees and as retirees. |
| 6. | Wed, 10/10/07 7:14 PM | Just keep them! Ours are soooo much better than many other local educational institutions. |
| 7. | Wed, 10/10/07 7:30 PM | percentage of health care must have more gradations |
| 8. | Wed, 10/10/07 7:31 PM | Better coverage, less from our paychecks. |
| 9. | Wed, 10/10/07 7:33 PM | Lower co-pay for non-g!
eneric prescriptions and doctor office visits. |
| 10. | Wed, 10/10/07 7:37 PM | not paying the 6% |
| 11. | Wed, 10/10/07 7:40 PM | It might be nice to have a strictly PPO option, like in olden days, like a Blue Shield or something...One that can be used even if someone moves away from California...it might encourage folks to retire sooner. |
| 12. | Wed, 10/10/07 7:46 PM | None |
| 13. | Wed, 10/10/07 7:57 PM | I would like a true PPO option. As there isn't one, and my wife has good health benefits, I take money instead of benefits. This really isn't a huge problem as I have this alternative with my wife but others may not and might be willing to pay a little extra for better insurance. I am not sure but I think that the money I get hasn't change!
d over the last few years. I know insurance costs have increased, the costs I pay out of pocket for medical services uncovered by my wife's plan have increase, so the money paid instead of health benefits should increase at a similar rate as well.
I was a part timer for 10 years (a lot at a 60% load) before being hired full time. I am frustrated that all of the sick time I accrued will vanish unless I teach AC load (which I don't do a lot of) and get sick a lot/take a lot of time off. We should be able to get compensated for it or have that converted into retirement somehow. |
| 14. | Wed, 10/10/07 8:00 PM | DENTAL!!!!!!!!!!!!! i really do appreciate the contribution the district makes for my benefits, but it is truly (talk to reid rawlinson) impossible to find dental insurance on your own. i called everyone and the only advice they gave me is to see if i qualify to be a patient at DVC d.hygeine school, which i did.....and it was not too bad, but it is NOT insurance. |
| 15. | Wed, 10/10/07 8:07 PM | none |
| 16. | W!
ed, 10/10/07 8:16 PM | Reduce co-payments. |
| 17. | Wed, 10/10/07 8:53 PM | Options besides CalSTRS (such as TIAA CREF). |
| 18. | Wed, 10/10/07 8:57 PM | AS PT want dental and vision! |
| 19. | Wed, 10/10/07 9:05 PM | I would like to see dental and vision for part timers |
| 20. | Wed, 10/10/07 9:12 PM | As part-time faculty I have the option to sign up for health care benefits, but the cost varies greatly depending on my work load and I wouldn't be covered the whole year. That hardly works for a family with small children. "Hey sorry kids you can't be sick in the summer." I can't be bouncing back and forth between coverage all the time. At anothe!
r district I worked at qualification for health care benefits were det
ermined by the previous year's course load and then we were covered for a year. Something like that would work much better. |
| 21. | Wed, 10/10/07 9:15 PM | - |
| 22. | Wed, 10/10/07 9:22 PM | Dental insurance be available for part-time faculty. |
| 23. | Wed, 10/10/07 9:31 PM | If it is not in the present contract, I believe the right to return to one's position after a long-term leave due to illness should be assured. |
| 24. | Wed, 10/10/07 9:38 PM | Hold on to what we have. |
| 25. | Wed, 10/10/07 9:40 PM | That they continue in retirement if you qualify. |
| 26!
. | Wed, 10/10/07 9:46 PM | No change. I'm fine. |
| 27. | Wed, 10/10/07 10:15 PM | Part-timers need to have vision and dental benefits.
Benefits for ALL faculty, regardless of full time or part time, need to be the same, and not determined by load, but by length of service, course creation, etc. |
| 28. | Wed, 10/10/07 10:17 PM | I don't think we're getting good value for either the dental plan or the vision plan. |
| 29. | Wed, 10/10/07 10:31 PM | None |
| 30. | Wed, 10/10/07 10:34 PM | Nice benefits plan - works for me |
| 31. | Wed, 10/10/07 11:04 PM | I'd like to district to cover healthcare fully rather than have a percent paycheck withdrawal. In my mind, full healthcare coverage is more important than a pay raise. |
| 32. | Wed, 10/10/07 11:44 PM | WEll, certainly the old plan -- where our spouses had medical insurance after our death was perhaps the best in history. Any erosion in the future of what we have now -- about current or retirement benefits, I think, is critically important especially as we try to attract good, smart new faculty. |
| 33. | Wed, 10/10/07 11:47 PM | More parity for employees who are single and/or cover fewer people through the benefits plan |
| 34. | Thu, 10/11/07 12:11 AM | get rid of employee contributions |
| 35. | Thu, 10/11/07 12:13 AM | I would love to be able to not have to choose between benefits or a paycheck. |
| 36. | Thu, 10/11/07 12:28 AM | eliminate all benefits and replace t!
hem with cash value. I can much better choose how to spend my money t
han the union can. |
| 37. | Thu, 10/11/07 1:50 AM | I think the vision plan is too generous. I must say that I wear glasses and appreciate the benefit, but some years my prescription does not change and I STILL get two pairs of glasses. A real waste of money, in my opinion. |
| 38. | Thu, 10/11/07 3:46 AM | I would like to have full benefits (medical, vision & dental) as a part timer |
| 39. | Thu, 10/11/07 5:23 AM | Health benefits should be available from the get go |
| 40. | Thu, 10/11/07 7:05 AM | PT should have all benefits that FT have including vision and dental. Currently, PT with families cannot afford Family Medical benefits. |
| 41. | Thu, 10/11/07 3:50 PM | increased options in plans including; a ppo for healthnet or other plan that gives more options for going out of plan; other service options such as massage/ accupunture etc. |
| 42. | Thu, 10/11/07 4:27 PM | Increase them. |
| 43. | Thu, 10/11/07 4:34 PM | It's OK for me |
| 44. | Thu, 10/11/07 5:54 PM | Equality with full time faculty including medical, dental, and retirement plans. |
| 45. | Thu, 10/11/07 6:03 PM | It's pretty good as is, although it was much better before we had to pay part of the health care costs. (I do understand the large premium increases created a burden on the district, but it is also a!
burden for faculty to now pay these costs. I suppose what we have is
a reasonable compromise.) |
| 46. | Thu, 10/11/07 6:26 PM | I like our benifets |
| 47. | Thu, 10/11/07 9:22 PM | Reduce the 80 points needed. You want to get us the hell out sooner, so we don't just hang around marking time, lower that number. You do and adios! |
| 48. | Fri, 10/12/07 2:50 AM | Part time should have the same coverage as full timers |
| 49. | Fri, 10/12/07 4:55 AM | I would like to be able to work part time and afford your plan.
I cannot at this point. |
| 50. | Fri, 10/12/07 6:28 PM | A 75 point benefit package for retirees intemediate between the 70 and 80 point package. |
| 51. | Fri, 10/12/07 6:59 PM | none |
| 52. | Fri, 10/12/07 7:24 PM | I need Health benefits regardless of if I have courses cancelled . They need to be able to be bought if I am not working a semester or 2 due to illness |
| 53. | Fri, 10/12/07 7:56 PM | not sure - need to examine all the details. my health, dental, etc is thru my wife's employer. |
| 54. | Fri, 10/12/07 9:45 PM | lower premiums |
| 55. | !
Mon, 10/15/07 3:28 AM | I don't have any benefits since I only teach one class and have no rehire rights |
| 56. | Mon, 10/15/07 1:39 PM | less expensive |
| 57. | Mon, 10/15/07 7:14 PM | To restore the percentage paid by employees to paid fully by the District. With an entire family being on the District benefits plan, my portion is large to pay. |
| 58. | Mon, 10/15/07 11:10 PM | I'm happy with it the way it is. |
| 59. | Mon, 10/15/07 11:58 PM | Retiree benefits (I can dream, can't I?) |
| 60. | Tue, 10/16/07 12:51 AM | More release time for department chairs. Compensation for SLOs. |
| 61. | Tue, 1
0/16/07 12:54 AM | N/A |
| 62. | Tue, 10/16/07 1:43 AM | dental coverage--delta |
| 63. | Tue, 10/16/07 1:58 AM | Make sure benefits are not cut. |
| 64. | Tue, 10/16/07 1:58 AM | option for healthnet select (50% payment for non-healthnet physicians). |
| 65. | Tue, 10/16/07 3:32 AM | full time faculty plans are outstanding! |
| 66. | Tue, 10/16/07 4:18 AM | Is there a way we can plan now to offset the "bulge" of older teachers/retirees that will be occuring soon? I'd like to see a plan to invest now so that we can keep all benefits possible without skyrocketing premiums. |
!
| 67. | Tue, 10/16/07 7:35 AM | more sick days |
| 68. | Tue, 10/16/07 7:53 AM | To keep it for retirees especially spouses |
| 69. | Tue, 10/16/07 8:43 AM | to ensure that we do not have to pay a higher share than we already are. |
| 70. | Tue, 10/16/07 5:33 PM | ciripractic inclusive, hollistic medicine inclusive |
| 71. | Tue, 10/16/07 6:54 PM | Simplify it, back it up, equal to and for all employees. |
| 72. | Tue, 10/16/07 7:07 PM | I like our benefits already. I'm not wild about paying a piece of my medical, but what I have now is much!
better than jobs offer elsewhere. |
| 73. | Tue, 10/16/07 7:37 PM | Benefits are excellent, yes the co-pays are higher in some areas, but this is a growing trend that will probably continue and has more to do with factors we can't control like the dramatic rise in the cost of health care. |
| 74. | Tue, 10/16/07 8:34 PM | ability to have extended family living with me covered under health, vision and dental...even if it costs me something |
| 75. | Wed, 10/17/07 12:00 AM | prepaid legal |
| 76. | Wed, 10/17/07 3:14 AM | Some of the medications are not covered under our plan. |
| 77. | Wed, 10/17/07 4:54 AM | A comprehensive health care plan (dental/eye), a sensible rehire rig!
ht, reasonable office hour pay and space, a better system of course assignment, a form of sabbatical leave for part time faculty |
| 78. | Wed, 10/17/07 5:38 PM | Access to life insurance plan |
| 79. | Wed, 10/17/07 7:00 PM | I'd like to make sure our out of pocket expenses for our benefits do not increase too sharply as the cost of living is already prohibitively expensive in the Bay Area, and our sallaries are just not competitive enough to justify our being burdened with even more expenses. |
| 80. | Thu, 10/18/07 4:38 PM | Given the increasing cost of funding benefit programs today, I am very happy to even have any benefits. |
| 81. | Fri, 10/19/07 7:39 PM | I need clarity abo!
ut health benefits during retirement; I'm not sure where to get explic
it information. |

| 83. | Sat, 10/20/07 12:11 AM | n/a I'm covered 1/2 by Peralta and they do have a better Kaiser
agreeement |
| 84. | Sat, 10/20/07 9:55 PM | Rescind 6% additional premium PTers are required to pay.
Include dental and vision coverage for qualifying PT faculty.
Offer coverage to more PT faculty. |
| 85. | Sun, 10/21/07 5:19 AM | Add dental benefits for part timers. |
| 86. | Mon, 10/22/07 11:45 PM | The medical plan for part-time instructors needs improvement. If an instructor currently enrolled does not teach for a semester he should be automatically be back in the plan the next semester he does teach without having to requalify. An instructor who has been on the medical plan for several years, say 3, should be able to take a semester off from teaching and have the district pay for the medical plan. |
| 87. | Wed, 10/24/07 4:55 PM | Health fully covered. |
| 88. | Wed, 10/24/07 5:33 PM | guaranteed retiree health benifits |
| 89. | Wed, 10/24/07 6:17 PM | no complaints |
